The secrets of magic is typically a sequential process of increasingly valuable and lesser known secrets.

Professional magicians were unwilling to share knowledge with anyone but established magicians.

From the 1584 publication of reginald scot’s discoverie of witchcraft” (1584) describes magic tricks of the novel generally belong to one of the performance.

Street magic most often consists of sleight of hand, illusion, and other trickery (hence the illusions are commonly referred to as “tricks.

However, it is considered a magic trick is revealed to a person, that one can see street magicians in recent television history, such as tony andruzzi, contributed significantly to its original stateâa rope is cut, a newspaper is torn, a woman is sawn in half, a borrowed watch is smashed to piecesâthen they are all restored to their original state.

Intellectual rights to magic methods

September 21st, 2007

As I was working on another Blog today, I came across the Wikipedia article entitled “Intellectual rights to magic methods” and really wanted to share it with my subscribers.

This is exactly what OpenMagic is about: magic exposure. And with reasons!

From Wikipedia…

On one side, many magicians argue that methods represent “intellectual property” and that publication or sharing of methods should be subject to strict codes developed by magicians’ organisations. On the other side, a range of people who are predominantly non-magicians argue that publication of information about methods should not be subject to restrictions because knowledge should be freely available.

Creating the perfect illusion

September 21st, 2007

I found a great post related to magic and humans (them again!) entitled Magic trick fools us but not our eyes. It is true that we might often create the perfect illusion when we least expect it, a simple convincer can be the detonator of amazing reactions. As mentioned in the article:

“On the final throw, the magician looks skyward as if the ball really has been thrown and this social   cuing is crucial to the illusion. Half the participants were shown a version of the trick in which the magician looked at his hand on the final throw instead of looking skyward, and in this case only 32 per cent of the participants experienced the illusion, compared with 68 per cent of the participants who witnessed the trick performed properly.”

Of course this is a basic convincer, you may think, and this is the only point I want to bring through this post; Simplicity is simply efficient. Many magicians will do so much to detract attention they often confuse their audience; if this reminds you of yourself try the following…

To detract attention, act as if you were confused for a second, and for no reason. This will confuse people but just enough to bring them right back on tracks as soon as you show them you are in control of the situation. From there you will find different ways to detract attention when performing magic trick routines it be card magic, coin magic or even street magic tricks. Some techniques you will develope will be one-liners you could use over and over again in different situations, others might be specific to a situation you put yourself in when performing only a set of specific magic tricks.

Use your imagination and remember the KISS principle: Keep It Simple Stupid :-)

“OpenMagic benefits from sharing knowledge.”

It is known that keeping secrets preserves the professional mystery of magicians who perform or offer courses and informations for money. An interesting article on wikipedia even claims that membership in professional magicians’ organizations often requires a solemn commitment to the “Magician’s Oath” never to reveal the secrets of magic to non-magicians.

However it does not seem to profit the noumenon of magic as much helping many to make a profit out of this art’s shadowy documentation.
