Visual Effects Secrets Revealed

Top Color Change

March 3rd, 2010

For a great visual effect, a sleigh-of-hand that’s a color change, the top color change is one of the killer moves in the ambitious card routine. It’s almost a card magic trick in itself but it’s best combined with other moves to create a great performance.

The idea is simple, you flip the card on top of the deck so it’s face up and cover it with a face down card. Now you’re free to create the illusion at any moment when you cover the card with your hand.

I hope you enjoy this one, it’s definitively worth being in your card magic arsenal!

Have fun!

Good Card Fanning Tutorial

December 22nd, 2007

This is a must for all magicians who do card magic and most (if not all!) do. It requires practice and can be replaced by other techniques which are simpler, but it will really add to a performance as it will seem to be unique to you since people do not often see that in their daily lives.

Learn, Practice and Perform.

The Riffle Pass

December 22nd, 2007

This based on the classic pass but requires more practice. It is best performed when the card inserted in the middle of the deck is left face up and creates a very convincing visual illusion when it is brought back on top of the deck.

It can also be combined with the turn-over pass or in a magic trick routine like the ambitious card routine.

Pinky Break

December 21st, 2007

This is a must, do not even think about skipping this one if you intend to do any card magic or free magic at all! The first and simplest variation of the pinky break is done in 3 steps that can easily be covered by gesturing with the hand that holds the deck while creating the break:

  1. Hold your deck with the mecanics grip
  2. Push the top card slightlty using your thumb until you can fit your pinky between the top card (that is pushed) and the second card
  3. Put the fat part of your pinky between the top and second card and push back the card gently until it is aligned back with the rest of the deck.
